A pool is great. But a pool with a covered patio next to it? That's a completely different level of backyard. This homeowner had the outdoor space - they just needed a structure that could turn it into somewhere they'd actually want to spend time, morning through night.
We built a full insulated Alumawood patio cover with wiring for ceiling fans and 12 recessed lights. That detail matters more than people realize. Without lighting, a patio cover becomes useless after sunset. With 12 lights built in, this space is just as functional at 9pm as it is at noon. The fan wiring keeps air moving on hot afternoons, which is huge when you're sitting poolside in direct heat.
Alumawood is one of our go-to materials for good reason. It looks clean and modern, it holds up without the maintenance wood requires, and the insulated panels actually block heat transfer - so the air underneath stays noticeably cooler than it would under a basic lattice or open-beam cover. That insulation factor is what separates a comfortable outdoor space from one you abandon once summer kicks in.
The design here extends the usable area of the home in a way that just makes sense. Large patio, covered and shaded, right off the back door and running along the poolside. It ties everything together without overcrowding the yard. Clean lines, dark charcoal frame, solid construction - nothing flashy, just right.
A good patio cover does more than block the sun. It makes you actually use your backyard. That's the whole point.
