This Lake Elsinore backyard had the bones - a nice open layout, good lawn, mountain views in the distance. What it didn't have was shade or any real sense of privacy. That's a tough combo when you're trying to actually use your outdoor space during the warmer months.
We installed two solid Alumawood patio covers across the back of the home, giving both sections of the patio full overhead coverage. Solid Alumawood is one of our go-to materials for situations like this. It blocks the sun completely - no gaps, no filtered light sneaking through - and it holds up year after year without warping, rotting, or needing a fresh coat of paint every season.
The privacy wall was a key part of this one. We built it right into the structure between the two covered sections, using horizontal Alumawood slats spaced to let in a little air and light while still blocking the sightlines from the side. It gives the space definition and makes it feel a lot more like an outdoor room than just a slab behind a house.
What we ended up with is a backyard that actually works. Both covered areas sit low and clean against the roofline, the colors tie into the stucco and trim, and the whole thing feels intentional - not like an afterthought bolted onto the back of the house. Whether you're hosting or just unwinding after work, that kind of outdoor space makes a real difference.
Alumawood is low-maintenance aluminum built to look like painted wood - and it handles the heat and sun that comes with living in the Inland Empire without any fuss. If your backyard is sitting underused because it's too exposed or too open, this is exactly the kind of setup worth looking into.
